Case Closed, Got Milk?

What day is it now? This whole thing is really starting to blur together.

The doctors were able to close Truman's chest yesterday which made us feel so much better. He now just has a small dressing on the front of his chest. Since then he has just been doing great. I am sure he is donig better than we are most of the time. It is really hard to see the little guy with so many IV's and the ventilator doing the breathing. Truman is still pretty puffy in the face and abodomen so he doesn't quite look like himself again yet, but he is still cute. I think I counted the other day that he had 11 IV machines giving him various drugs and nutrition. One of them now is Milk. YAY! They have started his feeding and they always start out really slow just to make sure everything is working the way it should and you don't get any pluggage. This is all done through a feeding tube that goes through his stomach and right into his small intestine. This prevents any spit up which you wouldn't want to do while on a ventilator. He started at 1cc an hour which is a drop, but has now gone up to 2 cc. Mmmm, milk.

He opens his eyes everynow and then, but mostly just rolls them around. His pain medication I am sure has him very far on the loopy side. If it were up to Kaiti and me, he would just sleep until he was all better. We certainly don't want him to be uncomfortable or have any pain. I have no idea how the nurses know if he is in pain or not. I guess they can tell some by the heart rate and blood pressure. Another nurse said their pupils tell you some too. It just wrenches your heart to think about it so we really try not too.

The doctors are all very positive about his recovery and so are we. We are so excited when anything can come off because he is doing better. So get going ventilator.

I am glad things are going so well. It just occurred to me to wonder, are you and Kaiti able to touch Truman? Hold him? Or is he isolated in his special care unit place? I am so excited for the day when you can take him home with you!
